Katie Wood grew up in Georgia, where she attended The University of Georgia from 2001-2005, earning a Bachelor’s in Family and Consumer Sciences for Child and Family Development. During college, Katie worked with various groups including battered women and children, homeless individuals, children with heart disease or heart defects, mentored at-risk children and teens, juvenile offenders, and families.  The summer after graduating, Katie went to St. Petersburg, Russia to work with disabled orphans through her church, and this past summer, Katie went to Ghana, Africa to volunteer teaching and tutoring children as well as community construction projects.

In September 2006, Katie moved to Washington D.C., started graduate school while also working at CCHFP as the Manager of Homeless Services.  Katie is working toward a Masters in Social Work at the Alexandria campus of Virginia Commonwealth University.
