Sean Read is a native of Central Pennsylvania, but comes to the DC Metro region via Western New York and the Niagara Frontier. After receiving his BA in Psychology from Houghton College (NY) with a concentration in developmental and youth studies, Sean relocated to Buffalo, NY to begin work with Autistic Services Inc., a non-profit agency specializing in services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders throughout Western New York. Beginning as a direct support professional with an adult day habilitation program, he quickly moved into a team leader position with adult day services before joining ASI's Clinical Department as a Behavior Specialist. From 2008-2010, Sean utilized his psychology and youth studies experience to work with ASI's Education Program in providing positive behavioral services. In addition to his work, Sean also served on the agency's Human Rights Committee, as a QA Investigator and as a crisis intervention trainer with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. Sean has also volunteered time working and traveling since 1999 to the Dominican Republic and Zambia, providing supports in community youth, relief, and development work.
In 2010, Sean decided to return to school, and enrolled with Virginia Tech’s Northern Virginia Center to pursue a Masters of Science in Human Development concentrating in Marriage and Family Therapy. During that time, he found his way to Friendship Place where he joined the Neighbors First team as a Case Manager in March 2011. In September 2012, Sean moved into his new role as Project Coordinator of the Veterans First SSVF program. In his spare time, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife and their dog Dunkin, exploring the outdoors, running, playing guitar, cooking, and planning his next international adventure.
