Tanya Sweeney grew up in the Anacostia section of Washington DC. After graduating from high school,she went on to attend college in Massachusetts, graduating with a Chemical Engineering Degree from Tufts University. Tanya worked as an engineer for 3 years and then went on to further her education, receiving an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Her professional career includes almost twenty years in sales and marketing within the telecommunications industry with AT&T and Lucent Technologies. For the last nine years of this period, she also worked for a Chicago IL start-up software development company.
In 2003, Tanya began volunteering in a local soup kitchen and various “women and children” community projects. It was in 2006 when she made the career transition from the corporate world into the non-profit arena by first becoming Resource Development Director at the United Way of Greater Union County in Elizabeth, NJ and then Director of Major Gifts at the Epilepsy Foundation.
When not working, Tanya is very active in her church and serves in several ministries there. In addition, she enjoys personal travel, reading, attending theatrical productions and spending time with her mom, sisters, brother, nieces and nephews.
