Friendship Place recognized in Fannie Mae press release

The results are in, and the 2009 Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon raised $5.8 million to benefit 134 homeless services organizations in the DC metro area. Help the Homeless is extremely important to Friendship Place because through it we provide educational presentations and mini-walks for 13 area schools and congregations. The funding is important, too; it allows us to offer outreach, housing, medical care, and more to our homeless neighbors.
Jean-Michel Giraud, our executive director, was quoted in the press release that went out to thousands of Help the Homeless supporters:
"Last year we were more reliant than ever on the Help the Homeless Program. There are people we supported and we housed whom we could not have helped if not for the Program. With the economy in crisis, there are more people in need and fewer dollars available to help support them. That extra layer of flexible funding is really key, not just to Friendship Place, but to the entire homeless services community in D.C."

We have an exciting new event where members of the community can talk about homelessness, learn what services Friendship Place offers, and help brainstorm positive solutions for our neighborhood.
Please join us at an Open Doors event. The next scheduled gathering is Wednesday, April 7 from 12:15-1pm at Friendship Place. Light refreshments will be served, and this is not a fundraiser - it's an opportunity to talk about our community. Please RSVP to Ben Bradburn at 202-364-1419 x20.
For more details on Open Doors and additional dates, please visit our Open Doors page. |

On January 27 the District conducted its annual Point In Time Enumeration. From 9pm - 2am outreach workers, case managers, and volunteers looked for people who are homeless outdoors and in need of shelter. You might wonder, what's the purpose of counting at midnight who is homeless?
